Trout Season is finally here!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
I don't know about the rest of ya'll......but thank god we're finally here! After the long hot summer temperatures, we are finally cooling and the rain has come. I suspect a great fishing year, as most of you have heard in the farmers almanac, its predicted to be a cold and wet winter.
Fishing may be little different from what some are used to this season due to these expected conditions, with much more water in the river, flows will be much higher and what was wade/accessible may not be this season. Startegies and tactics may also change somewhat as fishing in ankle deep water, sightcasting and nymphing the pods of fish may not be the case this season. We may encounter deeper faster moving water where streamers and sink tip lines play a role. Guadalupe River speaking.....we may be fishing much more of the lower section of the river this year, as with the possiblity of big moving water, fish will probably move a little different, they may not hold in the deep pockets as they did last year, but may move around a little more.
My recomendations are to be proactive instead of reactive, plan for cold and plan for wet. This may mean purchasing a good rain coat/wading jacket, packing some extra warm wading socks and have several layers so you can dress down if needed. Just remember this though....The best times to fish is when its raining, or when it is not!
