Austin - Texas Parks and Wildlife Department today announced the 09-10 trout stocking schedule for local lakes and streams. For those unfamiliar with the program, TWPD actively raises and and stocks local lakes and streams with game fish to increase the population and to support recreational game fishing. Stocking fish includes several species including trophy bass and trout. As the waters cool in the Texas winter the State begins its annual stocking of trout. This year late rains and cooler fall temperatures in central Texas have moved the time table up a bit which will probably lead to a longer and more successful season.
This season TPWD will stock over 270,000 pounds of trout in Texas waters. Almost 20,000 pounds of trout will be stocked into the Guadalupe River south of the Canyon Lake Dam. The dates for the Guadalupe River (Canyon Dam Tailrace) are:
4-Dec-09,
11-Dec-09,
18-Dec-09,
31-Dec-09,
8-Jan-10,
15-Jan-10,
22-Jan-10,
29-Jan-10,
28-Feb-10
Be sure to stop in at Action Angler at the 3rd Crossing. Not only is this a great fly shop right on the river and a great place to book a guide but one of the state stocking locations. Ask for Chris!
