Fresh Sockeye Salmon

Sockeye salmon are hard fighting, acrobatic fish that will test the best of equipment. I recommend the following gear for a day out for sockeye:

Hi Scott:

Yea, you're right about the traffic. I had no idea that it was opening day for reds. We had a few boats go right over us when we were stalking some bows. That was a bit frustrating. I was just glad to have a boat to get into the side channels.

I will be in Anchorage a few times a year and would love to hook up with you.

I wasn't able to fish due to time constraints, but was able to fly out to Lake Clark and wow, what a beautiful place. Next time I'm up there I want to fish for grayling and pike. I heard that the area where I was is loaded with large fish - all native.

Thansk,

Eric

Thanks Scott. Been to the Kenai many times over the last ten years. I have a very good friend that lives in Palmer near Wasilla. We will generally go out for the first two weeks of July. We will have to look you guys up the next time we are there. Perhaps do an extended article on your outfit. Be well.

Thanks, Scott.. Yes, she was really something.. Get this,,, as a teenager, she dated Frank Sinatra... Yup, that one. She thought he was too cocky, though, and moved on. We'd get letters complaining of cabin fever with snow over the roof during the mandatory residency period of homesteading. She also owned the only bar in Soldotna for quite some time. Although my sister visited there in '07, I have yet to plan the trip.. Hope we can fish together.. those pix are great!!

Thanks for the request, Scott. I'm happy to have a contact up there. My aunt passed away last year after living in Soldotna for almost 60 years, having homesteaded when the state was opened up. Hope to follow your updates as Spring proceeds.. Thanks again!

Scott, I was at Murray's in Edinburg last weekend. Chatted with Harry and replenished some of fly collection. Although I'm a F'burg resident, I've never fished for shad. Hard to believe, huh? Maybe I'll give it a try this year. Looks like fun. I usually fish in the mountains for natives.
