Here is how I found Beavers Bend Oklahoma this time around.
*Combat Fishing with everyone and thier dog on and in the stream(s)
*Lots of algae making drifts in many areas difficult.
*Small fish, they stocked 8,000lbs a couple days prior to my trip and it seems they were all 8-12" range, with a good fish being around 16".
The colors right now are beautiful, but the fishing is less than great. They've had some problems with flooding this year and again the algae is pretty bad, very slippery to wade in and the bad possibility of spreading Didymo.
Bottom line is if your looking for good fishing around our area, The Guadalupe is the place to be, there is a little more algae than normal and the debris on the surface is an issue, but the flows are fair to good, the fish are big and healthy and the river is not overly crowded.

I disagree, yes the crowds can be bad, but you must know when to go. During the weekend, you can expect to see more people. If I am going, I make certain, I can go during the week. With it being cold out, most of your regular fisherman, will be inside by the fire, not outside in the river. Numerous big fish are being seen / caught you just have to know where to look.

Thanks for the reply, I guess we just hit it at the wrong time. We ussually go around March and have a great time with lots of fish. We have'nt found huge fish, but were probably just spoiled from our fishing here on the Guad with avg size fish being around 16-20". We'll probably still go back in 2010 and give it another try, if anything else it's a change of scenery and a shot at some Browns.

Brent, when you are coming to the area again, let me know. I am assuming you fished zone 1 and that was it? I would love to show you around the fishery from someone who fishes it regularly. Take care and tight lines, brother.

Yea, that would be great! Probably around March we'll get down there if we don't go to Colorado. I did fish Zone1 and Zone 2 and had equal results this time around with the crowd and size fish. I did meet an older fellow down below the dam who was using a clouser minnow and producing some nice trout, you don't see that much! I'll for sure give you a holler Cole, thanks for the invite.

New Trout Season on the Guadalupe

We've waited a long time for the trout season in Texas to start. Well the wait is over, the temperatures have cooled, and the water temperature is down in the low 60's on the Guadalupe. GRTU has started their 2009-2010...
